Location & Size

The country house is a 150-year-old farmhouse on the outskirts of Veitlahm, which we lovingly renovated in 2011. The result is three bright flats that are equally characterised by historical charm and stylish comfort. Just outside the village of 700 inhabitants, picturesquely situated at the foot of the Patersberg and only ten minutes by car from the district town of Kulmbach, you will find our Waldesruh holiday cottage: it owes its name to its idyllic secluded location in the midst of nature. Here you will experience a landscape shaped in the south by the Main River, which is formed from the confluence of the White and Red Main Rivers at Steinenhausen Castle, barely five kilometres away. In the north, on the other hand, the green crown of Bavaria reigns supreme: extensive forests, panoramic plateaus and deeply cut meadow valleys offer active holidaymakers and nature lovers plenty of variety!

Farm experiences

Have you ever heard of chickens that roam the meadows on wheels in a coop and thus always have fresh green for pecking and scratching? On our farm, which is certified according to Bioland criteria, we not only offer the best living conditions for several hundred chickens, but also ensure that around 60 cattle and calves are kept in a species-appropriate manner with loose housing and summer pastures. Most of the feed for our animals comes from our own cultivation, and we also grow food grains such as spelt and emmer on our fields. Because sustainability is close to our hearts, we heat with wood from our own forest in winter and use solar energy for hot water in summer.

Experiencing animals at eye level

In addition to chickens, cattle and calves, our organic farm is home to four dwarf goats, two horses, the pony Oskar, sweet cats and the good-natured Appenzeller dog Luna. You and your children can meet all the animals at eye level! For example, if you like, you can

  • help muck out the stables
  • feed the goats and horses
  • fill up the feed and water tanks in the chicken mobile
  • help collect several hundred eggs a day (and choose your own breakfast egg)
  • go for guided walks on the colourful Indian horse Samira or Shetland pony Oskar.

Enjoy adventure and relaxation in nature

Fancy a ride on the tractor? Then join us out in the fields or in the forest, where you can discover a hidden foxhole, hike the Veitlahmer waterfall or climb the stone rock, for example. After an eventful excursion, relaxing hours await you on our sunny garden terrace with a magnificent view of the Main valley and the Patersberg. Sun loungers and a barbecue are available, and a playground and football pitch are right next to the farm.

Highlights in the surrounding area

The imposing Plassenburg with the world's largest pewter figurine museum (Kulmbach), the St.-Veit-Zeche visitor mine (Kupferberg), the "Alte Schneidmühle" industrial monument (Stadtsteinach) or Rosenberg Fortress (Kronach): numerous sights of the Franconian Forest can be reached from our farm in 10 to 30 minutes by car. If you love adventure, take a raft trip on the Wilde Rodach or plunge into fun on the summer and winter toboggan run high above Kronach's old town. Hikers walk the well-maintained FrankenwaldSteigla through quiet valleys and discover natural monuments such as the Steinachklamm (starting point "Mühlenweg" in Presseck).

If you are interested in stalactite caves: Thanks to the proximity to Franconian Switzerland, you can reach the Devil's Cave (Pottenstein) or Sophienhöhle (Ahorntal) in under an hour. On the way there, you can make a stop about halfway in the festival city of Bayreuth, which is well worth seeing. Or on the way back you can decide to visit Bamberg's old town, which is a World Heritage Site.
