Farm holidays in a unique location
Willkommen im Chiemgauer Naturparadies. Bei uns liegen die Berge buchstäblich vor der Tür, der nahe Chiemsee lockt mit seinen prachtvollen Inseln, Wanderwege beginnen am Hof und gleichzeitig ist die Landeshauptstadt München im Nu erreicht. Wir, Peggy und Heinrich Schwaiger sowie unsere drei Kinder Heinrich, Melissa und Leonhard freuen uns, Sie in unseren brandneuen, feinen Apartments zu begrüßen.
Location & size
The Oberhuber holiday farm is so picturesquely located that we can hardly believe it ourselves: surrounded by meadows at the foot of the Chiemgau Alps, near the Tiroler Ache in an absolutely secluded location near Staudach. Our town not only has one of the best inns, which you can reach in just a few minutes on foot, but its rural structure has still been spared from new development areas. Lake Chiemsee can be reached in 15 minutes, Rosenheim in 40 minutes, Traunstein is just under 20 km away and the Austrian border with its ski areas can be reached in just under half an hour.
Our farm tells a very long history - it was first mentioned in documents in 1579. It has been owned by our family since 1800, and they rented out rooms to summer visitors as early as the 1930s.
We inaugurated our new holiday apartments in September 2023 - because after careful consideration, the old building was replaced by a new one, built in a traditional style. For this reason, our five holiday apartments are not only particularly spacious, but above all also equipped to a high standard. The walls are soundproofed, each apartment has its own WiFi and underfloor heating and our largest unit “Burg Hohenstein” on the ground floor with 100 square meters even pampers guests with its own tiled stove and floorboards made of ash wood from our own forest. What you will enjoy most, however, is the view from the balconies and terrace of the intact nature all around: over lush meadows, the intact Egerndacher Filz to our beautiful local mountains - the Hochgern and the Schnappenberg. With us, your vacation starts right on your doorstep!
Farm experiences
We are still a real Bavarian farm with 50 dairy cows and about the same number of young cattle. In addition, our two boarding horses Maya and Frieda feel particularly comfortable, as do our lovable Labrador dog Sammy, the two cats and our 20 chickens, who lay particularly good eggs. Families with children enjoy one thing above all: the freedom that comes with being alone. While the little ones conquer the area with the pedal bulldogs or our large Kettcar, the adults enjoy the view of the Chiemgau mountains from our loungers or prepare a sociable barbecue evening. We are happy to give an authentic insight into our contemporary agriculture - you can get involved in the stable, with feeding, mucking out and other work that needs to be done depending on the season.
The fact that we operate sustainably is a matter of course for us these days: we heat with wood chips from our own forest and the electricity is supplied by our photovoltaic system on the roof.
Campers welcome
Behind our barn, completely private, so to speak, three campers find an idyllic and quiet place with fresh water and green electricity. It almost feels like “wild camping” in the middle of nature, because when you open the door in the morning, the first thing you see is our lush green meadows and the moor. For a perfect breakfast, we offer fresh rolls from the village bakery, just like in our holiday apartments.
Hiking and cycling paradise Chiemgau
We welcome families and their children. Grandma and grandpa, cousins or couples who are friends who enjoy cooking together in the evenings in the high-quality rooms of our apartments. The quiet time in October/November or late spring is particularly suitable for extended mountain tours directly from the farm. For example, via the Mühlwinkl to the Schnappenkirche and further towards the Staudacher Alm, where a hearty snack beckons. Cyclists choose between leisurely and strenuous tours, depending on their fitness. And e-bikes can be easily rented in the area.
In winter, when it turns white...
...yes, then you should literally come and visit us. When there is enough snow, the village youth ski a trail on our meadows - if you want something more challenging, you can go to Reit im Winkl, Unterwössen or Schleching. Alpine skiers can reach wonderful ski areas in 30 minutes - for example Hochkössen or the Steinplatte. Our advantage: You can get to the winter sports resort quickly - and at the same time away from the hustle and bustle of tourism.
Highlights in the area
Our unique cultural landscape, the Achental, offers endless possibilities for excursions and relaxation. In summer you can cycle directly from the farm to the small, idyllic Reifinger Lake, which is still an insider tip. Take a boat trip on Lake Chiemsee and visit the two islands, stop off in our good beer gardens. We do sporting activities from January to December: hiking, mountaineering, surfing or sailing. Cyclists and mountain bikers have 1,400 km of cycle paths to choose from and in winter there are varied cross-country trails and our nearby ski areas.
